Autism Spectrum in Adults

There are different issues to navigate for adults with autism. Those include:

  • Figuring out post-high school education (college, trade-school, etc.);
  • Figuring out independent skills of daily living (hygiene, transportation, shopping, cooking, etc.);
  • Figuring out housing (continuing to live with family, living independently, living in a supporting housing, etc.);
  • Figuring out employment (what jobs are appropriate, how to find them, whether or not to disclose the diagnosis to an employer, etc.);
  • Figuring out healthcare (finding a knowledgeable doctor, finding and paying for insurance, finding adult therapy, etc.);
  • Figuring out social relationships (friends, social groups, romantic partners);
  • Figuring out support services (social groups, advocacy groups, adult therapy);
  • Figuring out legal and financial issues (power of attorney, healthcare proxy, setting up a Will, setting up a Trust, exploring government benefit eligibility, etc.).
